–and I still had to hold it in its birthday suit when reading!! If I ever do want to take it out of the case and put it in a sleeve, it’s very easy to remove the jacket. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase!

I ordered the M-edge jacket for my Kindle 2 on 2/10/09, before it sold out. I just received it, and I love it! It has the Kindle 2-compatible mounting system, which is easy to attach/detach and really holds the Kindle securely in the jacket. There are also 2 leather bands on the opposite side corners, so that the Kindle doesn’t hang from the spine of the jacket. The purple leather with contrasting stitching is very rich-looking with a smooth and even grain. The brand name is embossed on the lower edge of the back of the cover. It is extremely well made. The inside of the cover is grey suede with one large and two credit card-sized pockets on the inside front. On the outside, there is a tab that is inserted in the front of the cover to keep it closed. You can fold back the front cover to read, which gives you a wider surface to hold onto on the left side. For the past 2 weeks, I had been using the Kindle 2 “au naturale” (think baby in a bathtub!!), and it was very slippery–which made me think several times I was going to drop it! The cover gives me something substantial to hold onto. It also makes it heaver, but not more so than a thick paperback. Now I can take it out of the house with no worries. Before I would put it in a padded lunch bag when I went out, which wasn’t a good look

This cover cracked my Kindle 2. I was at first pleased with the design of the product and the colors offered, compared to the black one offered by Amazon.
Unfortunately, I just noticed that the top prong that attaches to the Kindle has broken off, and the bottom prong is basically vertical right now.
After doing some research on the Kindle covers, apparently if the Kindle itself does not stay affixed to the back cover of the Kindle cover, this type of damage is common.
The M-Edge does have little elastic corner straps to hold the Kindle to the back cover, but in my experience these little straps have slid off on many occasion.
I did not realize that if the Kindle is not strapped down, and the back flaps open, damage to the cover and the Kindle would result. I am still in disbelief that this could even happen, considering the bottom prong on the M Edge cover is so strong I had a really hard time bending it back!!
Perhaps 1 star is harsh, considering that the Amazon Kindle cover doesn’t even have the corner straps to secure the Kindle to the cover, which I imagine results in even more cracked Kindles (you only need to look at the 1 star reviews of that product to see that this is not a rare occurrence), but for something that a.)is supposed to PROTECT the device, b.)costs $45 and c.) is actually manufactured for the Kindle, I expect it not to damage something that cost over $350!
I am very disappointed in this cover for this reason. I have called and left my number with M Edge customer service, and am hoping they will replace this item, and I will be sure that I keep the corner straps on the corner of the Kindle! I have only had it for 5 months and I am crossing my fingers that they will replace it.
The Kindle needs to have a third hole in the BACK, and the Kindle covers need a corresponding prong so that there is no chance that the back cover will flop open and damage the cover and kindle.
If you buy this produce, BE SURE TO KEEP THE CORNER STRAPS ON THE CORNER OF YOUR KINDLE. IT DOES MATTER!!!!!
(edited to add: I just looked at the M Edge Executive Jacket for the Kindle 1 and it looks like there are 4 corner straps, and each strap looks significantly more substantial than the two that are on this cover. not to mention, it appears that all but one strap on the Kindle 1 M Edge Jacket are fixed, with the fourth being elastic. This looks like it would keep the Kindle affixed to the back cover much better. Sometimes design changes are not for the better)

I initially ordered the platform cover along with the prodigy. I sent the platform back. The prodigy cover felt more of a natural fit. The picture has the the cover of a slightly darker purple than what it really is. This was a minor disappointment. I like the hinged attachements. It took a few minutes to figure out how it work since no instructions were included in the shipment. It does add some weight to the kindle but that is expected. The kindle fits snuggily in prodigy cover. The cover is made of nice leather and with suede leather inside. In the inside cover, there are 3 pockets to hold business cards etc. I think it is well worth the cost.
I have been reluctant up until now to take my kindle out of the house. Now that I have a very nice leather cover, I will be “kindling “everywhere now.

What I love:
1) Does its job- Keeps my kindle in place and protects it. I like the hinges because I feel it is better for securing the kindle.
2) It’s a really pretty color.
3) Small enough to fit inside my purse without making it too bulky
What I don’t like:
1) there a little bit of space between the kindle and spine, but nothing that would keep me from purchasing this product
overall A+

Just received this cover today, about 3 weeks after ordering from Amazon. Granted, it was ordered before the product was even complete, so I was ok with the wait. I am very pleased with it. What initially drew me to it was the color, it is a classy purple (think light eggplant) with an awesome pebbled finish. It is very similar in look and feel to a Dooney and Bourke pocketbook if you are familiar with them. It has a great leather smell, just like a new purse. And the additional room on the binder side (meant for the e-Luminator light – sold separately) gives you a nice place to hold the cover with the Kindle attached.
I love the hinge system, one of the main reasons I bought it. Coming from the K1, the original case Amazon provided was functional but the Kindle always fell out. So when Amazon improved the hinge for the K2, I knew I would only buy a case that had that feature. One word of note, I initially did not “lock” the K2 in the new m-edge case correctly and it almost fell out when I shook it (over a sofa) to test the support. Luckily the two straps on the top right and bottom right held it from falling. Then I discovered I had not closed the hinge enough and made sure the top hinge was securely pushed upwards to “lock it”. Installation instructions are not included with the case (weird) but are available from m-edge online. Amazon won’t let me post the url, but if you go to the buymedge website you can view the installation intructions.
The look and feel of the case is very professional. I am very happy with this purchase and do not expect to be taking the Kindle out of it very often. The only little issue I have is that the tab is a bit too snug when it needs to be slid into the cover to close. A snap might have been a bit easier. Still not enough of a con to drop the rating. But the tab does tuck away easily so as not to interfere while reading, which is nice.
