I have a Kindle; I am still using it for my daily reading. I generally take the Kindle everywhere I usually have my notebook because a decent backup reading device. I am still using Kindle for iPhone. If I can sit somewhere and I want to read books for a longer period of time, the ebook will be my tool of choice. And if I have myKindle with me, I can switch between both options whether to listen to music or to read books. The overall thing is that I can switch to anything whether to use my notebook or my kindle

I just received my Kindle DX and I love it. As to the cost. I have run out of bookshelves and would have had to get another for about the same price so I can’t really complain about the price.

The Kindle comes fully registered and ready to go as soon as it arrives. The instruction manual doesn’t explain everything so if you are a novice, you may have to call customer service for help. If you are gadget literate, you’ll have no problem.

The screen is great, the resolution very good. The “text to speech” option is as good as most voice recognition software and it does make odd emphasis on some sentenances, but not too bad. The page refresh is fast and the download fast and seamless. It allows you to notate words, or sentances. This is a great option for my literary club

So far, the Kindle is well worth the money and I have yet to experience a problem. I would recommend it to anyone. Hopefully soon you will be able to put school text books.

I purchased the Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device and when it was finally determined that where I live is not an area that receives the signal to download books, I bundled up the Kindle and returned it. The return was handled quickly and without question.

I enjoyed becoming acquainted with the product. The instructions was very good and I am sorry that the area I live is not included in the area where the signal to download the books covers.

My only complaint is that I should have been told somewhere during the purchase that based on my zip code that my area is outside the service area and I wouldn’t be able to download books at home, which was the entire reason I purchased te Kindle.

The Amazon Kindle – Change the Way You Read

I know, I know, I didn’t like the idea of digital book readers either. There is just something great about opening up a book and feeling the pages in your hand. Then I had a friend let me borrow his Amazon Kindle 2 for a trip I was taking, and let me tell you, all it took was that one trip.

The size of the device is fantastic. It’s thin, it’s small, but not so small that the screen becomes impossible to read. The screen is actually great, and it allows you to see a whole page without straining. The resolution of the screen makes it very pleasant to use in the sunlight, which is a complaint I have heard about some other eReaders. The sun just washes them out. Not on the Kindle.

Since my friend had wisely chosen the Global wireless version, I surfed over to Project Gutenburg while in Spain and downloaded a few items from the public domain. No trip to the bookstore necessary, just a five minute process, and I was on my way.

One standout feature of the Kindle is the battery life. I can literally go days without charging this thing. I don’t know how they did that, but it is a life saver on long plane rides or when you forgot your laptop and can only charge it in an internet cafe (this is a painful story of its own, let’s just move on).

This thing is not just for traveling abroad. I do 99% of my reading on my Kindle now, even when stateside. Get one yourself, and you may find yourself doing the same thing.

My Kindle has become one of my must have travel items. I can’t go anywhere without one.

Very impressed. Text to speech should be allowed

After a few days I’m very impressed with the new Kindle Amazon. I had some slight experience with the old model and this one, while not making any earth-shattering improvements, improves on much of what needed to be improved from the old model. There are a few things still lacking which prevents me from giving a 5 star review. Most things have been touched on by others, so I will not give an overall review. These are my personal issues, others may not have them, and I could be wrong about some things as I am still trying to learn the device.

1. How about some folders? Once you get a decent library built up (either archived online, or on the device itself, it could be difficult to find the specific book you are looking for. Sure for now it’s ok as I have like 4 books in there, but what about 12 moths from now? I can only imagine scrolling through 50 pages of books, which seemingly have no rhyme or reason in the order they are shown. Again, I could be wrong about this and there are ways to do this, but I have not found it yet.

2. Kindle Amazon store, please let me sort by date, relevance, etc. My way around this is to look up stuff online here and then go directly to the book on the device.

3. Why not put the page back button on the left where the next page button is? Several times I made the intuitive move of hitting that button to go back to check a drawing, or a previous passage, and am suddenly a page or two ahead of where I actually was. Seems to me the left button should be page back, the right button should be page forward. When I have to page back i have to make a significant effort to find the button. This will probably be a non issue with use, but it’s not as intuitive as I would like.

4. Is there a way to cancel a buy other than the page right after you accidentally click the button? With the delay in cursor movement I have several times clicked right past this page and ended up with books I don’t want and I have yet to find a way to delete them or cancel the transaction. Oh well more books.

Also, I do not agree with the decision to turn off text-to-speech at the author’s request. How is this any different than me buying an actual book and reading it to someone? I’m not copying the book.

I actually don’t think I will use this feature much or at all, but it is nice to have available.
So henceforth I will not buy any books that have this feature turned off. Hopefully others will agree, and make the authors see some common sense.

Thats about it. After 3 short days, overall I am very happy with this product. A few improvements would be nice, but there is nothing that is a deal-breaker. And as I stated before, maybe these issues are me and not the Kindle Amazon, and I just need to learn to use it better.

Had mine for a month now…Does pretty much what its supposed to do. Download of books is flawless – no issues. Appreciate features like adjusting the text size. Have gotten use to what each button does – ie home versus menu. Very readable. I use it on the bus on the way to work, and am able to see it with a variety of lighting conditions from direct light through the window to bus light in the evening.

On the critical side, the buttons are too stiff for my liking. The “5 way” selector is a bit annoying – not real easy to manipulate and the back/next take a stronger push than I’d like.
Have a newspaper subscription (LA Times)..its ok..not great. There’s no size difference in headlines – all articles have the same weight, so you don’t have any way to visually assess the relative weight of each article. Navigating through sections works, but again isn’t great…and I miss the pictures!

Overall a good product. No regrets on purchase, but can still be improved…

I got my new Kindle Amazon 2 over two weeks ago and I use it everyday. Every morning when I wake up, I switch on the wireless feature, update my blog subscription to [..], and use the Text to Speech feature and have my favorite blog read to me as I shave. Trust me, this is five times awesome. It is like having my own custom-made news show everyday. In general, the Text to Speech feature is incredibly useful so long as the text in question is mostly prose without a whole lot of dialogue because the voice does not always pause in the right spots.

My main concern before purchasing this was the cost of the device but then I browsed for books. While it is true that newer books only benefit from a moderate reduction in price, older books (you know, the ones written by good authors) are cheap with prices ranging from ridiculously low (less than [..] for a complete anthology of all GK Chesterton’s works.

That is over 400 works — including novels) [..] or even free for some public domain works. In addition to the Chesterton, I also purchased the complete works of HP Lovecraft, the complete works of William Shakespeare (including sonnets), a parrallel Latin-English Vulgate, the Douhay Rheims Bible, the entire Suma Theologica, and several other books the grand total of which would have easily[..] for their paperback versions and, weighing over 80 lbs, shipping would have been crazy expensive. I got all of these tomes for cheap and can carry the entire library in one hand.

The wireless feature works very well. It is free after all but do not expect to be able to use it outside the US. While it functions perfectly in Hawaii, it did not work in the American territories of Guam and Saipan.

My wife also proclaims this device has already improved my intelligence and made me “insightful and engaging”. Whatever that means…

We are both writers of the Nanowrimo sort and look forward to publishing in this format.

Amazing. Useful. Indispensable.

My only complaint is that I cannot use this wonderful device to display the other Asian languages I speak (Chinese and Japanese). If it had this one very important feature, I would have given it a perfect score. But purchasing it has allowed me to recoup the cost of its purchase in super cheap books, and has more than earned its keep by giving me the convenience of carrying an library in my hand.

I bought it on impulse after telling myself there was no real reason to do so. I so love it for all the reasons I laughed at before. Today at work, somebody mentioned what sounded like an interesting book and I got the first few chapters for free within a few seconds. No, as a matter of fact, I do not have any impulse control. I love having blogs and newspapers waiting for me in the morning.

Yes, four weeks ago, I hooted about the high-maintenance idiots who would need that stuff. I am exactly the kind of person who complains about having to pay for content you can get for free on your laptop. Now I make rationalizations about how it’s a service and well worth the price. I admit it…I’m hooked.

I love my Kindle Amazon 2 like you wouldn’t believe!! It has solved the problem of holding a book with my weakened hands. I am comfortable whether sitting, reclining in my chair or laying in bed. Reading has become a very pleasant addiction with my Kindle Amazon. I can’t seem to put it down.

I can’t even imagine any improvements that could be made on future models. Love it, love it, love it! And,your selection and categorizing of books is beyond all of my expectations. I haven’t been disappointed in any way.

My 78 year old husband, who retired six years ago, hadn’t read a book for sheer pleasant in years. Now I have to leave my Kindle Amazon free for him to read at night. He’s renewed his love of books using “my” Kindle Amazon. Guess who is saving his pennies for his own Kindle Amazon?

If You Love to Read, The kindle 2 reading device is The Most Fun in The World

I resisted the first kindle 2 reading device for all the regular reasons: “I like the look and feel of paper, it’s not really a book, who wants to read Anna Karenina on a computer screen, it’s too complicated, it needs to be charged, etc.”

But when I read the reviews of kindle 2 reading device, I decided to go for it.

What a FANTASTIC surprise. Yes, like Jeff says, the device disappears instantly, it just becomes a light, thin book, sitting in the perfect Amazon black holder.

I just came from a bus ride up Central Park West in New York City. As tried to read, thirty different people came up to me wanting to see it. I did a demo after only having it for a day and everyone was mesmerized.

What I love is that you can download books, magazines and newspapers right on the spot anywhere, instantly, NOT NEEDING WIFI is like a miracle.

I LOVE this “book of books.” Try it. You have a great treat in store!

My Husband Won’t See Me Anymore

I have been anxiously awaiting this product for MONTHS. I discovered it in November and then put it on my Christmas list. I ended up getting enough gift certificates from loved ones and friends to purchase. I was thrilled! I was even more thrilled when I found out that I would be getting the upgraded version!

Okay, so I finally received my Kindle yesterday and have been using it ever since. In fact, I had to pull myself away from reading to write this review My husband has already complained that he won’t see me anymore. I simply chuckle and get back to reading

I am greatly impressed with the overall design. The page turn buttons are strategically placed so that I don’t constantly hit it, unless I need to. I really like that it remember where I am at in each book that I am reading. I have a small son who interupts my reading and now I don’t have to worry about finding my lost spot anymore.

From my bed last night I was able to download several sample books and then decide if I wanted them. When I wanted to take a break, I was able to go to Facebook (not that this was a big deal). I really like the feature of using the internet for things that I want to look up.

I have had absolutely no eye strain and I have been reading for hours! It is just like a book, only better, in my opinion.

I LOVE this product and would very much recommend it to others!

I think that 3,756 reviews (so far) for the Kindle with an end rating of 4.5+ stars is pretty darn complimentary. I keep trying to find something wrong with my Kindle Amazon and I just can’t, except maybe that it’s not in color (I was not willing to wait for that to happen). I have been sitting in the sun reading my Kindle Amazon and the picture is as crisp and perfect as it is with indoor light. I am getting more and more used to turning the page with a click instead of reaching up and actually TURNING a page and my brain is getting better and better at telling my finger when to click (mindlessly) so I am reading the last couple of words of the last sentence on the page and voila, the next page appears.

I assume that I will get to the point where I will be holding a real book and will wonder why the page did not turn itself. Because the page turning button is on both sides, I can hold the book in either hand and still easily click the turn page. The printing is both soft and and crisp, very easy on the eyes. It is somewhat disconcerting that there is no BOOK under the pages, but at the bottom of the page, it tells me what percentage of the book has been read, and there are reference pages that show where I am in the book. I can bookmark, take notes, look up words that I don’t know by just moving a clicker up to them–there is a voice reader available with many books, male or female choice, slow, medium, or fast cadence.

I haven’t used it yet, but someday I will have it read to me while I knit, which I wouldn’t be inclined to do at this point because my attention span is so woefully short. I love the look, the weight, EVERYTHING. I also bought a beautiful leather binder in lime green. I thought about going for a more conservative color, but I want everyone to notice my Kindle Amazon! The binder is the M-edge Prodigy Hinge Jacket which I selected over others because your Kindle Amazon locks into the jacket. I also bought the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version) that clips onto the leather binder, so I can read at night without disturbing the DH.

The light has 2 levels of brightness and bends to whatever angle I want–the low light is just fine even in complete darkness. What a win, Amazon!!!!!!!! Thank you for creating the Kindle!!!!

I ordered my Kindle Amazon 2.0 a few weeks ago and have already become very attached to it. In addition to purchasing Amazon books, I’ve used the various free book websites you can find easily on the internet (just check Wikipedia for some entries) to download public domain books or books from publishers (like Baen Books) that provide some of their titles for free.

Downloading books from most sites, or emailing attachments to yourself, is pretty easy. I had a few minor hiccups at first–using the Kindle to browse the Amazon store, for example, is less easy that simply using your PC–but the manual is easy to use and reasonably comprehensive. You don’t have to be tech savvy to use the features of the Kindle.

I do have one fairly minor complaint (it didn’t detract from my rating), but I really feel that the Kindle Amazon should come with a cover. They could have put together a cheap cover and still sold a better one, but a cover feels absolutely necessary to me.

I do recommend than anyone who purchases a Kindle Amazon take a look at the “999 boycott” tags, though. This is NOT a slam at Amazon or the Kindle, but a few publishers have decided not to pass the savings they receive by selling Kindle-format books on to their customers, charging standard book prices for ebooks. While they are free to do so, Kindle purchasers also have the right to say they won’t purchase books that don’t reflect at least some of these savings. Again, Amazon is not responsible for setting these prices, but the publishers need to be sent a message.

Go buy a Kindle Amazon 2.0 and support the publishers that understand what a boon for the publishing industry this is!
