It seems like everywhere you turn there is a new, improved, and much fancier ebook reader device out there. You might be tempted to whip out your credit card right away, but is it really worth it? Some people think you’re better off without them. The first major problem with these readers is the initial cost. While you can save money in the long run because the books are usually priced so low, the readers themselves are expensive. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a really good one for under $200. That’s just way too much money for the average person to spend when they could pick up the latest hardback for $25.Another issue many people have is the feeling that reading on an electronic screen simply isn’t like reading a real book! There is really something to be said for the way a book feels in your hand. There is something special about the way it smells and looks. Putting the pages on an electronic screen doesn’t have the same effect. Finally, a major reason you might consider getting one of these ebook readers in the first place is because you travel frequently or are always on the go. It is pretty convenient to be able to take so many books with you, but you might run out of batteries at the worst time! While you can always trust your handy paperback to be there when you need it, you can’t trust an electronic device. What’s going to happen when the battery dies or the data gets wiped out somehow? The good news for ebook reader fans is that there are ways around these things if you want the reader bad enough. For instance, if you plan your battery usage ahead or bring an extra one you’ll be pretty safe. Also, many ebook companies you buy from will keep your purchases safe on their servers as well as on your device. There are also many pluses that come along with being an ebook owner. It is often convenient to have with you when you need it. The readers also come with many features that make reading the book, taking notes, saving your place, buying new books, and other ‘book lover’ activities easier than ever. Still, ebook readers are simply not right for everyone. How are you going to make your choice? It’s easy if you weigh your priorities. Consider whether or not you can afford a device, and if you’re a fan of technology or tradition. It’s often the case that the two can work seamlessly together! While you can rest assured that there will be a steady flow of tempting new ebook readers released, you can always wait until the time is right for you. If you are ready to get a new reader right now, you’ll be pleased to know that the readers of today are far more advanced and user-friendly than they were in the past.

There is no doubt that eBook readers are continuing to increase in popularity, although it is believed by many that sales will settle to a background level as most potential users wait for the technology to improve. Although many would like the convenience of an eBook reader and the capability of loading a library of books into one machine, they prefer to wait for improvements in both the e-ink and e-paper technology, and also in the quality of the eReaders. Many feel that if the Kindle is the best there is then they would rather wait. However, they might perhaps not be waiting too long, because many businesses that believed that portable eBook readers would have a niche clientele at best are now developing their own versions of a technology that is proving to have an unexpectedly large demand. It looks like sales of eReaders are going to rocket in 2010; that is if the bubbling activity in sales and development planned for the year is anything to go by. It seems that many of the problems that consumers have with eBooks and their readers are being addressed, and that development is not only being restricted just to the production of bigger and better machines, but also to new cutting edge technology. So what’s in store for you if you are currently considering the pros and cons of eReaders against the real thing? The devices themselves are becoming increasingly more sophisticated, with companies such as Plastic Logic and Barnes and Noble entering the arena. The latter has just unveiled its ‘Nook’, which with its multitouch color screen looks hot enough to knock the Kindle of its pedestal. Plastic Logic is entering the market with a business-oriented eReader with 3G connectivity. The Plastic Logic proReader will be shown to the public at the Consumer Electronics Show on 7th January, 2010 in Las Vegas. With its 8.5 x 11 inch touchscreen, the QUE is the first true business eReader, enabling users to read PDF, Excel, Word and PowerPoint files. As it was described in the article “The QUE e-Reader: The New Kid on the Block”, the screen is not only shatterproof, but also capacitive without any loss in sensitivity that such layered screens often show (Digital Book Readers). “The QUE proReader enhances business performance and gives you a competitive edge,” according to Plastic Logic’s CEO, Richard Archuleta. In a market currently dominated by Amazon’s Kindle, the two computer giants, Apple and Microsoft, are said to be working separately on a multifunctional tablet device that will also offer computer and multimedia functions to their customers. Sony are also rapidly improving their eReader range and the new IREX DR800SD eBook reader goes some way towards helping with the size problem with its 8.1 inch screen. Many potential users have been put off by the screen size of the earlier products and these new 8 inch+ products are beginning to look very attractive to them. However, apart from increasing wireless connectivity and larger screen sizes, what else should we be looking for in 2010? Screen size has not been the only problem with newspapers, although some of these will be resolved by 3G technology providing the ability to update quickly without the need for a hard connection. In fact, the concept of digital newspapers is an attractive one to many people, and it is certainly environmentally friendly. Add to that the saving in printing and distribution costs and it is little wonder that many of the larger newspapers are considering trials based upon a 3G and digital subscription model. Future hardware could involve thin, rollable screens that would convert a large number of people who currently prefer magazine and tabloid formatting. However, given that news is freely available online, the e-News experience would have to offer something special over and above just what can be found on any laptop or palm computer.Perhaps the new product being developed by Asus might meet the needs of everybody. This eReader is said to have twin color touchscreens that open up just like a hardback book, thus meeting one of the complaints that reading eBook readers with one page open at a time detracts from the reading experience. The eReader will also have a speaker, microphone and webcam, thus enabling Skype videocalls. In fact, Amazon had better shape up because word has it that the Asus will cost less than the Kindle, and with all the extra features, is liable to jump ahead of it in sales. 2010 might see a massive sea-shift in popularity, particularly if Amazon and Seiko have been resting on their laurels a bit. There is no time for that anymore because the next 12 months will see a massive surge in both R&D and in developments on existing products. Another of the gripes of genuine book lovers is the appearance of the print. E-ink has gone a long way towards solving this problem, and the continuing development of both ink and e-paper technology by companies other than just Prime View International will lead to improvements in the appearance of eBook reader text and also in prices for the equipment. Early 2010 will bring more competition in this technology that will benefit customers’ pockets and their reading experience. As the popularity of such devices continues to grow, computer and cell phone manufacturers will offer their own equivalents, based on 3G technology and utilising the best e-ink and e-paper technology available to them. Devices will become larger, though still portable, which will involve rollable screens commensurate with the restriction in screen size of portable devices. An increasing number of devices will offer touchscreen throughout 2010, although color screens will not likely be generally available until the year after. You will also be seeing stores setting aside space just for eBook readers and associated technology. To date, such equipment has been hidden among other miscellaneous electronic applications, but it is now being recognized as a mainstream technology deserving its own promotions. Finally, don’t forget Asia! 2010 will also likely see a significant increase in inexpensive eBook readers from China, Taiwan and other Asian countries. However, it will be the screen and ink technology, and also the range of books, magazines, and eventually newspapers available to users that will ultimately distinguish between those eReaders that sell and those that don’t.

Amazon raises the bar with its cool Kindle DX model of popular Kindle Reader line of eBook Readers. The Amazon Kindle DX, a wireless eBook reading device is much larger than its predecessors, Kindle and Kindle 2 readers. It is 9.7” in length and is ideal for reading newspapers, magazines and textbooks.

The newest Amazon Kindle maintains Amazon’s lead over other ebook readers and makes it the best eBook reader and overcomes the challenge from Sony eBook readers PRS 500 and PRS 700 and Nook which has yet to hit the market. The cool Kindle DX display is very easy to read from because it uses the latest technology in electronic ink technology. It is easy to read even in bright sun light and there are no problems due to glare or backlight. The power consumption is low as a result. You can read for days on a single charge. Kindle and Kindle 2 readers did not have built in PDF readers and Sony readers did. That differentiation is no longer there because Cool Kindle DX now has a built in PDF Reader that allows us to carry all the PDF e-books, and personal and professional documents where ever we go. The display is very sophisticated and rich supporting 16 shades of grey to allow viewing a variety of reading material including graphic rich content such as maps and computer graphics. The display can automatically rotate between portrait and landscape viewing modes for viewing large width content such as maps, graphics, images and tables. This makes Kindle DX not only a personal companion but an important professional companion and could become as useful as the business wireless devices such as Blackberry and i-phone.

Just like its predecessors Kindle and Kindle 2 readers, Kindle DX supports built in 3G wireless capability through Whispernet which means you can always get connected without having to look and pay for WiFi hotspots. You can download in less than 60 seconds from Amazon Kindle library of 350000 books and magazines.

The Amazon Kindle DX has an internal memory of about 4GB which can store up to 3,500 books. You can go with this massive library anywhere in the world. If you are on the move and want to download a new book you can do that anywhere in the US. But unlike its predecessor Kindle 2 you cannot download while traveling abroad. Like its predecessors Amazon Kindle DX does not have external memory card slots to allow you to create libraries on your own digital media. Look for such a feature in future models. Yes the bigger sleeker Amazon Kindle DX is more expensive than its smaller predecessor the 6” Amazon Kindle 2.

For all the features and advanced technology we think Cool Amazon Kindle DX is the Best eBook Reader right now in the market.

This was a brief overview about cool features of Amazon’s newest eBook reader, the Kindle DX.
The Amazon Kindle has been the big boy on the block for a while now, but with the release of the Sony PRS-600 and its little brother, the Sony PRS-300, there may be a challenger coming to town. While the details are still a little sketchy, a few things have been confirmed. Most recently the device itself was confirmed by Sony. However, some leaked details gave a little bit more information about what they offer. And some of the things these new ebook readers claim to do may have Amazon sweating a little. The first consideration that would get people more than a bit curious is the price. Released only in February, the Kindle 2 is now priced at $299. It is also only the 2nd latest version with the entry of the Kindle DX in May. The Sony PRS-600 is rumored to be available at the same price when it hits the stores. The pricing scheme is apparently designed to appeal to those who find the Kindle DX to pricey yet want a newer model than the Kindle 2. Sony has also made it known that new ebook releases will be sold at $9.99, the same price for which Kindle books are selling. Based on prices, the Sony is bent on offering as much value for money as the Kindle. Leaked portions of the manual hint at what the new ebook readers may have to offer. One feature that stands out is the touch screen. Available on top end models like the $1,000 FLEPia, the touch screen helps to clear up some more space that buttons would otherwise occupy. It also means the device can be even smaller and lighter. Even with a 6 inch screen, it would still only weigh about 10 ounces. And at just .4 inches thick, it is one of the most compact, yet advanced, readers that you will be able to find.Another rumored feature that has made the Sony Reader more anticipated is the possibility that it has a flexible screen. Although nothing has been confirmed by Sony with regards to this, the manual does mention that the device has many flexible parts. One of the theories being floated around is that it may have a bendable and unbreakable screen, which would certainly be a breakthrough technology. The introduction of Sony PRS-600 as well as Sony PRS-300 can be very intriguing and interesting. The PRS-600 includes a built-in dictionary, a stylus freehand writing feature and a library suite software which can be supported by an ordinary PC and Mac. With 380MB storage capacity, it can also expand its battery life for about 7,500 pages. With such an impressive array of features and With the indications that these models will soon be available for a reasonable price, consumers might just put off purchasing a Kindle 2 until the release of Sony PRS-600.

How does the Sony PRS-600 measure up to the Amazon Kindle 2? Visit us to read the detailed Amazon Kindle 2 review and find out for yourself. You’ll be able to watch the device in action to discover how it stacks up against other ebook readers like those made by Sony.

The greatest thing about the holidays is PRESENTS (just kidding, it is the fact that people are really nice to one another), especially when one of your co-workers gets a really cool one to show off. The Amazon Kindle is one of the more unique and truly eco-friendly products on the market today. Amazon Kindle

The reasons for all the hoopla about the device are varied. The first is conservation. It used to be that the best sources of teaching kids about this great activity were library books. They serve as tools to help kids learn how to read as well as learning about recycling. Conserving and sharing books is vital to paring down on the cutting down of trees.

Second is the technological advancement of how things are read on the Kindle. After staring at my computer screen too long, my eyes tend to freak out. Most of the time when reading an e-book or long paper it becomes necessary to print it out on paper. Amazon Kindle Tell us about your Kindle

Along comes the Amazon Kindle. At first look you think, oh, another gadget. But this one is truly unique. It reads like a book. It has a white background and black lettering with NO GLARE. If you are an older adult, you may not need to put on those reading glasses. The print can be made larger. The Kindle can read some computer documents as well, reducing the eye strain of a monitor.

The Amazon Kindle is most known for its book selection. New books can be purchased at usually more than 50% off the retail price. You don’t have to go onto the computer to download the books either, as it is always connected via Amazon’s Whispernet to Amazon’s bookstore.

When on vacation people lug around 2 or 3 books to read. Instead of doing this, why not take the 10.3 ounce device instead. Even better, download the books you want, it can hold up to 200. You will not have to worry about running out of room. Another great feature is the ability to stay up on all the latest newspapers. Get the NY Times every morning sent right to your hands. Read it over breakfast (without the messy ink of a newspaper).

We really like the Kindles for many reasons. Yes it is a fun and new device with some great features. The best part is the reduction of tree consumption. The overall energy used downloading a book versus driving to the store or library is significantly less. The Kindle saves energy.

The Amazon Kindle 2 and the Sony Reader PRS-700 are two of the hottest ebook readers to hit the market in the past 12 months, bringing reading pleasure to an entirely new level. For those who are new to ebook reading devices and are interested in getting one, here’s a comparison of the Amazon Kindle 2 vs. Sony Reader and how they match up against each other.PriceThe price of any gadget is a big factor for many individuals especially for first-time buyers. The Amazon Kindle 2 is currently priced at $359, while the Sony Reader is currently pegged at $399, making the Kindle 2 cheaper by $40. Size and WeightThe size and weight of these gadgets don’t really give one distinct advantage over the other. The Sony Reader PRS-700 weighs around 10 oz., the Kindle 2 just slightly over that. The Sony Reader is a bit wider and thicker, while the Kindle is a couple inches longer. In any case, both are very convenient to carry around.DisplayThe two reading devices both use e-ink technology which creates a display that is very similar to text on paper, eliminating eye strain, and providing an easy read with crisp, clear text and images. The Amazon Kindle 2009 however, is now enhanced with 16 shades of gray, while the Sony Reader has an 8-level gray scale.Wireless CapabilitiesHere is a category where the Sony Reader is clearly bested by the Kindle. The Amazon Kindle 2nd generation makes use of the Whispernet technology, providing free wireless coverage in the US via Sprint’s 3G high-speed network. Kindle users can gain access to over 240,000 book titles, magazines, newspapers, and even blogs. By just choosing the reading content of choice and paying for it, the book or magazine will be downloaded to the Kindle anytime, anywhere within minutes! The Sony Reader PRS-700 on the other hand, still lacks this wireless capability, and with only less than 100,000 books to choose from, it does not even come close to the breadth of content that the Kindle offers. Formats SupportedBoth electronic book readers support most commonly used formats such as TXT, MP3, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP, plus some formats unique to each device. The Sony Reader however, supports PDF while the Kindle 2 does not – not directly, anyway. PDFs still need to be emailed to Kindle’s support desk to be converted for viewing on the Kindle and Amazon has gives an advance notice that “some complex PDF files may not format correctly” on the Kindle.Storage CapacityIn this feature, the Sony Reader gains the clear upper hand. True, the Amazon Kindle 2 has 2G of internal memory of which 1.4g is available for content and can hold up to 1,500 books, but it no longer supports external memory cards. While the Sony Reader’s 256mb internal memory may seem like peanuts compared to the Kindle, the main advantage actually lies in the Sony’s ability to support up to 16G of external memory. Now that’s a great benefit not only when it comes to holding thousands of content should one need it, but also for managing files into different memory cards. Battery Life and Charge TimeThe two ebook readers have the same capacity when it comes to battery life. On a fully charged Kindle 2 or Sony Reader, one can read straight for two weeks without needing a recharge. The only difference is that if the Kindle 2 is used with the wireless turned on, the battery capacity is reduced to just four days. Charging time for both readers is four hours via USB, or two hours using an AC wall charger. The Bottom Line 2009 Comparison of the Amazon Kindle 2 vs Sony eBook Reader:Although it’s not a total knock out for the Kindle over the Sony Reader, it’s close! The Amazon Kindle 2 remains the better ebook reader hands-down. The price, breadth of content, wireless capabilities, and overall design improvements of the Amazon Kindle 2nd generation makes it a clear winner over the Sony Reader 700.

Get the full Amazon Kindle 2 review here and take the video tour to see just how cool this handheld ebook reader is!

Amazon’s Kindle eBook reader is now on sale in the UK and Europe, shipped with a US power adaptor supporting voltages of between 100V and 240V so that it can be used anywhere in Europe. Amazon began offering the Kindle to Europe in late October 2009, thus breaking down the one barrier to its potential domination of the e-reader market.

It is not, however, sold from local Amazon sites such as Amazon.co.uk, but only from the American main website Amazon.com. It is sold in American dollars, and shipped from the US, although it is ordered by Europeans using their regular accounts. So what benefits does the Kindle offer over the other e-readers that have been available in Europe for some time and that most people interested in eBook readers now own. Examples include the Sony PRS, Cool-er and iRex, though there are several others against which the Kindle now has to prove itself.

It is being offered globally on the 3G network with no charges for the wireless connectivity that is used to download eBooks directly to the Kindle. However, blogs and the web browser they are experimenting with will not be available.

Is it too late for Amazon to enter the European market? Initial signs are no. Sales have been strong, particularly in the UK and Western Europe, where it appears that intelligent consumers are going for the Kindle’s range of features rather than looks. However, the strength of the iPhone in Europe could be serious competition once this has been modified to a fully featured e-reader. Apple is not known for being left behind in any technology. Furthermore, as it was noted in the article “Is the Future of Books in Mobile EBook Reading?”, the future likely lies in a portable digital reader that downloads and plays music, offers internet access, incorporates a digital camera and can be used as a mobile phone (Digital Book Readers).

The electronic libraries available to Kindle users are vast, with Amazon offering over 200,000 titles in the English language, and publishers such as Penguin, HarperCollins and Faber and Faber signing up to offer Kindle-compatible titles. To date only US newspapers and magazines are available, but it should not be long before the top UK and European newspapers are added to the list.

As stated, prices are in US dollars, and a Kindle currently sells to the UK from Amazon.com for $259 plus local customs, taxes and other charges, although accessories such as a charger, leather case cover and users guide are available from local Amazon sites in local currencies. In the UK that price equates to £157 UK – compared to the Sony PRS-505 at £225, the BeBook at £240 and the Cool-er at £190 (all to the nearest pound), then the Kindle appears to be the best deal.

You can get the Sony e-book Pocket for under £160 if you know where to look, and all of these products can be purchased at lower prices elsewhere using internet price comparison websites, but these are the basic prices on Amazon and a brief survey has indicated that they differentials are generally maintained elsewhere.

However, buying from the US site, it is not possible to find the actual price including duty and delivery until you actually provide your payment details. On doing that the price is £202.63: It still beats the Sony PRS and BeBook price, and given the limitations of the Cool-er and the size of the Sony Pocket that is cheaper still, there appears to be no reason why the Kindle should not be as successful in Europe as it is in the USA.

So what benefits does the Kindle offer over these competitors? Probably the backing of Amazon, the largest eBook distributor on the planet, is sufficient reason in itself. Add to that the amazingly clear screen with its e-ink technology, and everything that anybody could want in an e-reader, and then you have your answer. Add to that the 3G, that means you don’t have to dock your reader to anything, and it doesn’t even have to come within a 100 miles of a computer to work, then its competitors are dead in the water.

The battery has the longest life ever, and everything about it is about ease of use, ease and speed of download and storage capacity for 200 books, this has everything. Add to that the MP3 player that plays through built-in speakers or headphones that it shares with iRex (the Sony needs headphones), then you have a machine that is top of the class, and for which only the price was not right.

Now that the price is right in Europe compared to that of the competition then there should be no holding the Kindle back. At least not until Apple find a competitor to 3G to enable rapid downloading of eBooks, and then the world of e-readers will come alight again with a battle royal that Amazon might not relish – but knowing Apple, they will love!

The Amazon Kindle is not only the hottest ebook reader on the market today but next to the iPhone its one of the most popular electronic gadgets. At the time of this writing it has been out of stock for weeks and those that have placed orders for the Kindle will be waiting for several more weeks to get it!While the Kindle is certainly the market leader for the ebook reader market, Apple is fast on its heels with the iPhone. From listening to music or watching your favorite movies to playing games, you can do it with the iPhone so why not read books on the device as well? That’s what Apple seems to think anyway and as a result is quickly trying to give the Kindle a run for its money as an ebook reader.Recently, it was announced that several major publishers have signed deals with ScrollMotion, a New York mobile application developer. ScrollMotion is a new app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that will allow consumers to buy and read electronic versions of newly released and best-selling books. This latest iPhone app puts Apple directly in the ebook business in a big way.Despite Apple’s ambitions, there are two main differences that should favor the Kindle (at least for now) as strictly an ebook reader. The first obvious difference is the size of the display. Try reading a chapter of your favorite book on a 3.5 inch display, the size of the display on the iPhone, and you’ll likely go crazy. Contrast that to the Kindle’s six inch diagonal display and there’s no comparison in reading comfort. The other main difference between these devices is the technology that is used in the displays themselves. The Kindle uses e-Ink technology to display text while the iPhone works much like a computer monitor where light is emitted to display text. The difference in these technologies is dramatic. When you read text on the Kindle, it looks just like text on paper and there is virtually no eye strain, even after long reading sessions. With the iPhone, reading text is much like reading from your computer monitor (on a much smaller scale) and will almost certainly strain your eyes. When you compare these devices side-by-side as strictly ebook readers, the larger display and display technology easily favors the Amazon Kindle. There are two things in Apple’s favor, however, that could trump the Kindle’s success. The first being iPhone’s availability and price, and the second being the convenience of being able to do everything with one small device. The iPhone is readily available and is cheaper than the Kindle. As for screen size and potential eye strain, consumers may be willing to make these sacrifices if it means they can use one device for everything. The ideal gadget would have the features of the iPhone and the Kindle, but that’s never going to happen anytime soon. I believe in the end dedicated ebook readers like the Kindle will always have a leg up on smaller communication and entertainment devices like the iPhone. That doesn’t mean Apple is out of the game. Who knows, could the Apple “iReader” be right around the corner? When comparing the Kindle vs. iPhone as an ebook reader, it’s important that you determine exactly what your needs are in a reading device. It’s also important you know what the Kindle can and cannot do. For that, read the full Amazon Kindle review here.
