Kindle Amazon User Review…

By: S. Gabriel

Very impressed. Text to speech should be allowed

After a few days I’m very impressed with the new Kindle Amazon. I had some slight experience with the old model and this one, while not making any earth-shattering improvements, improves on much of what needed to be improved from the old model. There are a few things still lacking which prevents me from giving a 5 star review. Most things have been touched on by others, so I will not give an overall review. These are my personal issues, others may not have them, and I could be wrong about some things as I am still trying to learn the device.

1. How about some folders? Once you get a decent library built up (either archived online, or on the device itself, it could be difficult to find the specific book you are looking for. Sure for now it’s ok as I have like 4 books in there, but what about 12 moths from now? I can only imagine scrolling through 50 pages of books, which seemingly have no rhyme or reason in the order they are shown. Again, I could be wrong about this and there are ways to do this, but I have not found it yet.

2. Kindle Amazon store, please let me sort by date, relevance, etc. My way around this is to look up stuff online here and then go directly to the book on the device.

3. Why not put the page back button on the left where the next page button is? Several times I made the intuitive move of hitting that button to go back to check a drawing, or a previous passage, and am suddenly a page or two ahead of where I actually was. Seems to me the left button should be page back, the right button should be page forward. When I have to page back i have to make a significant effort to find the button. This will probably be a non issue with use, but it’s not as intuitive as I would like.

4. Is there a way to cancel a buy other than the page right after you accidentally click the button? With the delay in cursor movement I have several times clicked right past this page and ended up with books I don’t want and I have yet to find a way to delete them or cancel the transaction. Oh well more books.

Also, I do not agree with the decision to turn off text-to-speech at the author’s request. How is this any different than me buying an actual book and reading it to someone? I’m not copying the book.

I actually don’t think I will use this feature much or at all, but it is nice to have available.
So henceforth I will not buy any books that have this feature turned off. Hopefully others will agree, and make the authors see some common sense.

Thats about it. After 3 short days, overall I am very happy with this product. A few improvements would be nice, but there is nothing that is a deal-breaker. And as I stated before, maybe these issues are me and not the Kindle Amazon, and I just need to learn to use it better.

kindle 2 reading device Customer Reviews…

If You Love to Read, The kindle 2 reading device is The Most Fun in The World

By: Mara Kurtz

I resisted the first kindle 2 reading device for all the regular reasons: “I like the look and feel of paper, it’s not really a book, who wants to read Anna Karenina on a computer screen, it’s too complicated, it needs to be charged, etc.”

But when I read the reviews of kindle 2 reading device, I decided to go for it.

What a FANTASTIC surprise. Yes, like Jeff says, the device disappears instantly, it just becomes a light, thin book, sitting in the perfect Amazon black holder.

I just came from a bus ride up Central Park West in New York City. As tried to read, thirty different people came up to me wanting to see it. I did a demo after only having it for a day and everyone was mesmerized.

What I love is that you can download books, magazines and newspapers right on the spot anywhere, instantly, NOT NEEDING WIFI is like a miracle.

I LOVE this “book of books.” Try it. You have a great treat in store!

My Husband Won’t See Me Anymore

By: M. Macdonald “reading mom”

I have been anxiously awaiting this product for MONTHS. I discovered it in November and then put it on my Christmas list. I ended up getting enough gift certificates from loved ones and friends to purchase. I was thrilled! I was even more thrilled when I found out that I would be getting the upgraded version!

Okay, so I finally received my Kindle yesterday and have been using it ever since. In fact, I had to pull myself away from reading to write this review My husband has already complained that he won’t see me anymore. I simply chuckle and get back to reading

I am greatly impressed with the overall design. The page turn buttons are strategically placed so that I don’t constantly hit it, unless I need to. I really like that it remember where I am at in each book that I am reading. I have a small son who interupts my reading and now I don’t have to worry about finding my lost spot anymore.

From my bed last night I was able to download several sample books and then decide if I wanted them. When I wanted to take a break, I was able to go to Facebook (not that this was a big deal). I really like the feature of using the internet for things that I want to look up.

I have had absolutely no eye strain and I have been reading for hours! It is just like a book, only better, in my opinion.

I LOVE this product and would very much recommend it to others!

Happy Reading!

Kindle 2 Device Reviews…

I love it!

By: Jennifer Carson “booklover”

I’ve had my Kindle 2 Device for about three weeks now and I absolutely love it. It took me a few days to get used to the screen flash for the page turn, but I don’t even notice it now. Downloading books is incredibly easy and I find that I’m reading far more than I was before I owned the device. I’ve downloaded several from Project Gutenberg as well as from Amazon itself. Books I never would have thought to read before are now on my Kindle 2 Device.

I even took it to the emergency room a few days ago and it saved me. I was in the waiting room for almost an hour, and waited another 3 once I was in a room. I wasn’t sick – I was bit by a potentially rabid cat – so I would have been extremely bored without it. I didn’t have time to search my bookshelf for a book before leaving for the ER, so I just grabbed my Kindle 2 Device and had almost 100 books to choose from.

This thing is amazing, and I’m so happy I bought it.

Fantastic for vacations and travel; ideal for visually impaired!

By: J. Mandeville

Although pricey, the real value of this purchase is that it got me to read again. Love the fact that I can go on vacation without having to pick out books in advance, or get something at the airport. Love that it remembers where I am if I fall asleep. Love that I can read it on the beach. Love that it holds a charge for so long.

Would be nice if it had a backlight option, but books don’t have that anyway. As I get sleepier, I like to enlarge the font, which is a nice feature. And I’m constantly using the dictionary to look up words that I “kind of” know — great feature. Color will be a nice addition some day, but totally unnecessary.

Originally got this for my grandfather with glaucoma, who now has just tunnel vision. Seemed like the perfect thing for an ex-avid reader, since you can change font size, have it read to you, download newspapers and magazines, and you don’t have to drive to the book store or library! But if you can’t program the clock on your microwave, you probably can’t use the Kindle 2 Device. It is very easy for anyone under 60. A good idea for the visually impaired.

Kindle Amazon – Avid Reader

By: Honest Abe

This is a great product deserving 5 stars. I waited several months to review so I could use most of the functions. I have read many books , fiction and non-fiction and used the free trials of newspapers and magazines. There is a short learning period, but the functionality is wonderful. It is easy to read in most conditions; you can use an accessory light if existing light is very dim. Get the book cover that comes with it. Here are some great features: turning pages from both sides of the Kindle Amazon, browsing the book, using the built in dictionary, bookmark and highlighter, changing the size of the type, returning to the page you left off, easily flipping between books, newspapers and magazine articles, easily charging the battery, free trials and many free books especially classics, downloads and browsing directly from the Kindle Amazon store in Amazon with multiple reviews on-line and much more.

There a some minor issues: the screen is relatively small so you will turn pages more rapidly (the new model is bigger), a contrast control for the type might be helpful, table of contents are not always available, the wireless connection varies on your location (I can’t connect in the mountains), figures are OK but not the best. For me I just do not care for newspapers and magazines in this format, but it does navigate well enough. Some book prices are very good, but current releases are usually about . The Kindle itself is pricey, especially the new one.

Still for the avid reader what could be better? You will read and enjoy more books this way. In fact one Kindle Amazon for two or more in the family might not be adequate.

Kindle Amazon – Perfect for people with Book Acquisition Disease

By: Threeundertwo

Some people probably walk into bookstores and buy one book, which they read completely before returning and buying one more book. Some people probably never have library fines. I am not one of those people.

I’m the type that can’t leave a bookstore without an armload of books. Used bookstores are even worse, and my “books to read someday” pile can get pretty big.

Enter Kindle Amazon. The best button in the built-in store menu is “save for later.” Now I can not only sample a generous portion of each book, I can defer paying for it until I’m actually ready to read it. Then I just scan my “saved for later” folder and pay for a book at the moment I’m actually going to read it.

So if you suffer from B.A.D. (Book Acquisition Disease) as I do, do yourself a favor and get yourself a Kindle. It will pay for itself pretty quickly.

Device Kindle 2 Customer Review…

By: John Howarth

Review for people with poor vision

Device Kindle 2 is great. I bought it because I was having difficulty reading books, especially those with small ptint because I have glaucoma. I was impressed by its ability to change font size.

Well, I find that, almost without exception, Device Kindle 2 lives up to my expectations. I thought that I would need to use the largest type size, but I find that I am using the second or third largest. This, I think, is be Cause the contrast is so good.

The controls are easy to use, and the system works well, once you have learned it. All the stuff in the promotional video is true!

However, I have a few problems, only one of which is serious. This is that, while we have variable font sizes for the books, etc., we don’t have them for the instructional screens that appear, where the print is very small, though I’m sure it is fine for people with undiminished vision.

There are things one has to get used to doing in a different way, like going to the end of the book (not easy), or flipping through chapters, but I guess one learns how to do these things with practice.

I would like a previous page button on the right side as well as the left; the on/off switch is not easy; using the long location numbers is a pain. The “Sync to Furthest Page Read” command rarely succeeds. If you are using a large font size there are difficulties sometimes in accessing elements of, say, a Table of Contents, if the list goes onto the next page. One can resolve the difficulty by changing the font size.

I am impressed by the quality of the reader voices, both male and female. It is by far the best electonic voice I have heard. Most of the time it sounds like a real person. It does sound artificial when it reads titles and headings, which it runs together. It also reads typos the way they are written, but that is the fault of the Kindle book, not of the Device Kindle 2. The book I am reading, The Cairo Trilogy, by Naguib Mahfouz, has many, many “typos.” It runs words together like “hisheart” for “his heart” (over 200 times), “hishead” for “his head” (about 200 times), etc. It also reads “abd” (partof an Arabic name) as “a, b, d.”

The availability of books on Device Kindle 2 is an important one. There are 250,000 books, but, of these, I’m sure that there are at least 200,000 that I don’t want to read. In checking a random sample of books I was interested in I found that about one in three was available as a Device Kindle 2 edition. Amazon.com is working on this and I am very appreciative. Things will get better.

In spite of all my quibbles I think the Device Kindle 2 is a marvellous device and I am very happy with it. I’d give it 5 stars except that that would look inconsistent with my criticisms.

Reading Kindle Customer Review…

By: Mark Howard

An excellent single-purpose device – which is what it’s meant to be!

Having read a wide range of positive and negative reviews, and having owned my Reading Kindle for about a month… I wanted to comment on a common remark made in some of the negative reviews.

I have noticed a few people making snide comments about the web browser, or lack of color or touch screen. In other words, they seem to be comparing the Reading Kindle to the iPhone, or other multimedia portable device. It seems as tho Barnes and Noble have responded to this by including a color touch screen on their new ‘nook’ (although I don’t think it has a basic web browser).

If you are looking for a portable multimedia device – don’t buy a Kindle. Buy an iPhone, load it with mp3s, videos and apps, pay 0 a month for service… and enjoy!

If you are looking for a READING device… a device which emulates the experience of reading a physical book, but also allows you to store, access and purchase a huge range of books, newspapers and magazines, weighs just 10 oz and will travel with you anywhere… get a Reading Kindle!

In other words… the kindle is very good at what its meant to do. Very good! I find that I read more, and more widely, then I ever have before. I find the magazine or newspaper subscription service very useful too. I didn’t give it 5 stars because it isn’t perfect and I look forward to Amazon further developing it with the next generation (although I will be content to keep my 2.0 when they do).

There seems to be a modern obsession with universal devices that do everything all at once. Thats great, and convenient, but they always seem to do everything ok, but nothing really really well. To give an example – professional photographers wouldn’t use an iPhone to take your wedding snaps even tho it includes a camera… they would use a device dedicated to that function… If you want to play video games, the iPhone has some excellent apps, but a dedicated games console would be far better. The point being… multi-purpose devices are great, but sacrifice quality on one area in order to provide a wide range of features. Single-purpose devices do one thing, and do it very well… so it is with the Reading Kindle.

The very reason sony, amazon and now barnes and noble are making ebook readers is because no other portable all-in-one devices are good as e-readers. Their LCD backlit screens are AWEFUL for prolonged reading, and their screens are often too small etc.

Check For Best Price Now!..

Absolutely THRILLED with my Kindle 2 Reading

By: Ellie Neveling

I am a 50 year old Bibliophile (Book lover and avid reader). I have severe osteoarthritis and have had numerous surgeries to replace diseased joints. Recently, I had left and right thumb base replacements (my thumbs are like new!) and a left wrist fusion (my wrist can no longer twist or bend-but the pain is gone!!). I am left handed too-and this has made it difficult for me to hold books.

I am absolutely thrilled to say that the Kindle 2 Reading has given me back my joy of reading!!!! It is a marvelous product and rates 5 stars for me. I was concerned that it would not feel as inviting as a “real” book-but not so! I am immediately immersed in my reading. The print is easy on the eye and the light weight of the device and easy to use controls make reading even more of a joy! I am also someone who regularly reads 3-4 books at a time (different genres) and to be able to carry “all” my books with me is wonderful.

Then, I can easily choose which one to read at any given time! My husband and I travel frequently and the Kindle 2 Reading will leave me plenty of room in my suitcase since I won’t need to pack multiple books. (my husband is happy about that!) Thank you for this great electronic device! I love it!

Very Pleased

By: The Orwellian

I received my Kindle 2 Reading last Wednesday, and I have spent every free moment since reading and finding its full potential. I have yet to find an aspect or a feature that I am completely dissatisfied with.

I’m sure that without reading the User’s Guide, anyone can take the Kindle 2 Reading out of the box and figure out how to purchase his or her first book in a few minutes. All of the controls and buttons are well placed and easy to understand. The 5-way controller allows for the easiest insertion of highlights or notes. I couldn’t imagine trying to navigate internet pages without it.

The online capabilities are impressive though there are a few draw backs. It is a little slow with the refresh rate at times. Also, when I pull up a website that is outside of the already bookmarked sites, it may take a little bit of time as well. However, my favorite forum sites and local newspapers are all there. Once they are loaded, it’s as good as being at my computer.

I have never really been a reader who takes notes while reading. If I do that with a printed book, I’ll lose my pace and focus. With the Kindle 2 Reading, it’s very fast and easy to insert a quick note and not have to wrestle back the pages attached to a stiff spine of a small soft cover book.

I’m enthralled by the all of the other features. The selection of texts is incredible. The Text-to-Speech function is great for times when my hands and eyes busy with other tasks. The MP3 function is good, but I wish that it would include other types of music files because all of my Chopin and Beethoven are in MP4 format. If anyone needs to find a graduation gift for a senior in an English Literature program, this is my recommendation.

Kindle Amazon Customer Review…
By: RJL

I’m sold!

I had been a die-hard paper book guy, but finally decided to give Kindle Amazon a try after reading the User’s Manual online. I must say, it is one well-designed device. The screen is very easy on the eyes and Amazon has done a great job putting the technology in the background so that you get that much-loved “lost in the book” feeling when you read. I don’t know how they did it, but I absolutely do not miss the paperback. In fact, it’s more immersive than a paperback since you’re not having to constantly fight the book’s desire to spring closed.

I can read for hours (when I have time) without eye strain. And changing the text font size is a huge plus for avoiding eye strain or adjusting to your reading environment on the fly. I can also share books with family members that have a Kindle Amazon , an iPhone, or an iPod Touch (up to units are allowed on the account).

My favorite features:

> Wireless downloading of books (GREAT feature. No need to wait to grab something to read while on the plane or just out and about!)

> Syncs last page read with my iPhone and vice versa, so I can read off my iPhone if that is what’s handy, and then pick up again on my Kindle Amazon later

> Electronic library and notes backup on Amazon.com

> Coworkers can email me .doc and .pdf files directly to my Kindle Amazon while I’m on the road

> The awesome screen – just can’t say enough about the quality of the reading experience

> The ability to bookmark, highlight, and take notes

> Built-in dictionary and Wikipedia access

> Access to my entire eBook library, all the time

> Mobi has many full collections available for under .00 (e.g., Mark Twain, Sherlock
Holmes, etc.) – And they ALL fit on the Kindle Amazon!

There are a few cons:

> PDF documents do not convert terribly well, and you cannot create a live table of contents for PDFs and DOC files sent to your Kindle Amazon

> Many books I would love to have on the Kindle Amazon are not available, but a few surprise books have been, so I guess it balances out

> Cannot create Word or PDF documents with Table of Contents that the Kindle Amazon recognizes and makes active.

> Family will need their own Kindle Amazon or Apple device to access your library. This is a downfall of any eBook setup, but it’s the way of the future. Get ready to convert your stuffy home library space into a movie or game room!

> Would love a book checkout option so that I’m not having to actually buy everything I read. Maybe libraries will get there with Amazon, much like they let you check out audio books online. A subscription-based system (like Netflix for books) would also be a great idea.

When my kids get older, I will be getting Kindles for them too. They can read wherever they are. What a great way to develop the love for reading!

Kindle Amazon is a great device, and like it or not, it’s the way of the future.

kindle 2 reading device Customer Reviews…

I Love my Kindle

By N. Hall

I have had my kindle 2 reading device for 2 weeks now. I read all the reviews several times before I bought so I had a good idea of what it is and is not. It is all that is claims to be. I had a bit of trouble navigating in the Bible, but I think I have that all figured out. All other books have been a cinch. I love getting the books within a minute. Actually, my kindle 2 reading device will do much more than I will ever use. I wanted an electronic book and that is what it is. I am an avid reader. I have sooo many books. It is easy to read.

The pages turn at the right speed. I never lose my place. I can go from book to book. I bought the leather cover and it actually feels like I am holding a book. The battery lasts a long time. I found that turning off the Whispernet connection made it last longer. I plug in my cell phone at night, so I just plug in my kindle 2 reading device when I see the battery getting low. I love my kindle 2 reading device. Now I can have a library without filling my house with books.

Certainly something a reader would enjoy

By Wanie girl

I kept my eye on the kindle 1 reading device and never was willing to pay the price for the 1st generation device. When the kindle 2 reading device was announced there was enough enthusiasm from kindle 1 reading device owners that I was willing to give it a shot, and I am certainly happy with that decision now.

It is important to keep in mind what this device is and what it is not. It is not a laptop, pocket PC, or digital picture frame. What it is, is a great alternative to lugging around multiple paper/hardback books. If you enjoy reading you will likely enjoy this device. Though it doesn’t have the same “feel” of a book in your hands it will honestly disappear while you are reading. The display reminds me of a paperback in view and reability, and the ability to increase or decrease your font makes this a great reader for those who are visually impaired.

The ability to read samples of books you are considering is also great. I was always the type to say, “Oh, that book sounds good I’ll look for it in the bookstore,” and then forget to pick it up. The kindle 2 reading device is not just a reader, but a portable bookstore. I also love having my newspaper delivered every morning to the kindle 2 reading device. Though I miss the pictures, the text display articles are easy to navigate.

I would warn you that you will likely be buying more books if you purchase this device! Overall, I am really happy with this purchase and device and have reccomended it to many friends.

Kindle Reading Device User Review…

By: Michelle Gable “AnimeMom”

Simply AMAZING!

I LOVE my Kindle Reading Device 2! As an avid reader AND a tech junkie, I am getting the best of both worlds.

I researched and reviewed all of the e-readers out there. I didn’t want to go with Kindle at first because I never want to assume that the “leader” is necessarily the best. I looked at the Sony and even the new Nook. They each had their pros and cons. But when it came down to it, the Kindle Reading Device’s library simply won me over.

These were my requirements:
* I didn’t want a touch screen. Most people are surprised by that. However, touchscreens have major drawbacks. They are not ergonomic, the screens get oily and difficult to view, and it is difficult to be very precise when you are selecting or highlighting text.
* I wanted the ability to “grab” a book regardless of location, so a free wireless network was a must.
* I read a wide variety of books (from bestsellers to classics to reference titles) so a large library is a must.
* I have wrist issues (carpal tunnel & tendonitis) so ergonomics is key.

These seem like simple and basic requirements and, I suppose, they are. However, I feel that most people need basic requirements. You could go through all the technical mumbo-jumbo (which I actually did) and find more similarities and disparities, but people just want to know if it works, if it works well, and if we are happy with the product.

What do I miss with a Kindle Reading Device?
* I miss browsing the book store and finding a gem. (Although I still browse the book store and then download it on my Kindle. I kind of feel like I’m cheating.)
* I miss handing books off to friends when I’m done reading them. (And my friends are missing that too!)

What don’t I miss with a Kindle Reading Device?
* I don’t miss the pricetag of a printed book!
* I don’t miss the massive piles of read and to-be-read books next to my nightstand.
* I don’t miss the tactile pleasure of a printed book (although some of my friends with Kindles do)

All in all, I highly recommend the Kindle Reading Device.

Check For Best Price Now!..

Kindle Reading Review…

By: KMW

The Girly Girl Perspective

For a true bibliophile, the decision to go digital can be a little rough. Will I miss the smell of new book? I won’t actually own my copy of the book, how do I share with friends? Will it really be like reading from a book or is this little screen going to annoy me?

I pondered ordering the Kindle Reading for over a year. Well over a year. These are just a few of the thoughts that went through my head. Then, the Kindle Reading 2 was released and it happened to be my birthday. Next thing you know, I’ve tripped and fallen on the order key.

My thought was that I would hate it and end up sending it back. Seven days later, my Kindle Reading 2 and I are having a torrid affair and you would have to pry it from my cold dead hand to get it back from me.

Here’s why:

1. It’s pretty. I’m sorry, I’m a girl and I get distracted by shiny objects. Being a geek as well, it helps if said shiny objects are gadgets as well. This thing is just slick looking. They buttons are well placed. It is slender and lightweight. The joystick is highly functional and the keypad is extremely easy to click even if you have nails. In fact, a trained monkey could use this thing (I apologize to any trained monkeys peeping in, no disparagement intended). They have made it that user friendly.

2. I had 102 classic books lined up. The freebie ones to try it out. When I started my Kindle Reading 2 , those books downloaded faster than ants to the picnic. They were suddenly just there. And I live in po-dunk middle of nowhere. Low bandwidth wifi service central people. It was super sexy.

3. It really is easy to read. Sunlight, indoors, whatever. The screen looks as like paper as anyone could hope for. If you are a fast reader, the loading time from page to page is really not an issue, because you have read the last sentence on the prior page ahead and the words are still kind of hitting your brain while it loads. The page turning buttons are a lot easier to hit than say, flipping a page in a real book while lying in bed, having said page get caught up on the covers, and having to adjust to get it squared away. There is no funky hand numbing or awkward pinky page keeping. In fact, it is so comfortable, that I’ve fallen asleep holding it about 4 out of the last 7 days. I wake up and its still exactly where it was when I conked, having turned itself off for my convenience. No kidding, I wake up and its so lightweight that I’m still holding it upright in the same spot.

4. Sampling? No kidding?! No more buying a book then suffering through it because you’ve bought it and well, once paid for you may as well read it even if it IS the driest book ever published. If you are interested in a book, you simply grab a sample and make sure its tolerable. No muss, no fuss. And purchasing if you like it is of course super easy.

5. The memory slot issue. Okay, okay, I get that its great to have a ton of little memory cards hanging around with all of your books faithfully stored and….oh wait no, I don’t get it. Why? If you are switching to digital, why continue to clutter your world with book storage. Amazon will hold them for you! Really. Big hairy deal people. I would have memory cards all over the place and have no idea what is on them.

6. The text-to-speech function. Hrm. Wouldn’t know, haven’t touched it. I read. The whole brouhaha over this little bit of functionality is ridiculous. No one wants to listen to an entire book read in computerized speech. If you are a true reader, someone who is in it to ride the imagination train, ignore this function. If you are visually impaired, I’m happy that they added this and hope that it allows you a better opportunity to read.

7. Battery life. I’ve been on it for 7 days and have had to charge it once. Even then it was only down maybe halfway and was charged simply because it was convenient to set it down and walk away at that time. I do turn the whispernet off for normal daily use.

8. The best charging cable ever. Period. There is a little firewire looking plug on one end that slips into the bottom of your Kindle Reading. The other end is a usb connector with an adapter that plugs over it for wall charging. I flipped out when I pulled it out of the box and realized what it was. Could someone please send Apple pictures of this? My iPod cable is not nearly as sexy and trying to charge it on the fly gets old. This is the type of connecting cable that every device sold should come with. Hands down.

The 2 problems I have with my Kindle Reading:

1. The major buttons on both sides are for the next page. For some reason, my brain wants a prior page button on the left side and the next page button on the right. The Kindle Reading is training me quickly though and I should expect I’ll be used to it in no time at all. Confession: I hit the page button once and looked left as though I had turned an actual page in a book.

2. If you walk away and the Kindle Reading goes into its sleep mode with a screen saver, when you come back there can be some residual pixels from the screen saver. I have concerns that over time these electronic smudges may become semi- or altogether permanent. Without further investigation, that’s as much as I would be prepared to say on the subject.

The problems I have are small in comparison to the things that are great about this device. In short, I am in love hook, line, and sinker. That’s not to say there will never be another hardback book purchased and lovingly shelved, but it will have been read digitally first.

Note: I also purchased the plain black amazon case for the Kindle Reading 2. It is MUCH better looking in person. The Kindle Reading clicks into it and it is comfortable to hold. If the right hand side of the kindle not being secured would bug you, order one of those other cases. Maybe the hot pink one ;o)

Wireless Kindle User Review…

By: Claire C. Collins “Devourer of Words”

As good as it claims to be!

I got the Wireless Kindle 2 for my birthday, and have had it for a little less than a month now, and I am having so much fun! I am a voracious reader, and my family can testify that for the last three or so weeks, I’ve barely put the thing down to sleep.

Specific things I love:

— The text-to-speech function. My mother hates it — she says it takes too much concentration to figure out what the mechanical voice is saying, and the odd pauses throw her out of the story — but I for one am fascinated by how comprehensible the reading is. As someone who is interested in linguistics, I would love to know if there is a site out there that lists the rules Amazon gave the software — why, for example, “read” is sometimes pronounced to rhyme with “red” and sometimes with “seed,” but the word “reading” always rhymes with “bedding.” And it’s awesome, for someone who tends to try to read while doing everything (walking, cooking, getting dressed,) to have the option to put the book down and multitask faster.

— The device itself. It’s slim, beautiful, and intuitive. In fact, it’s so easy to use, it completely disappears, as a good book should. Within ten minutes of my first order over the whispernet (another thing I love) I was no longer reading a good book on the Kindle, I was just reading a good story, totally immersed in a new world. Which is as it should be.

I particularly love the fact (as with any e-reader device) that I can just lay the thing flat and continue to turn pages without worrying about the book closing or losing my page. Reading in bed or, more importantly for me, in physical therapy when I have to stay as still as possible, is so easy I’ve completely stopped thinking about it.

— The battery life. The Kindle read to me all the way from New York to Toronto last week — at least ten hours — without a recharge. (It was dead when we got there, though.) And if I do nothing but read with the wireless off, it goes for four days — and I read a lot! The wireless does eat up your power, though. Beware!

— The Whispernet library. It’s quick and easy, once you set up a credit card, and the “recommended for you” section has introduced me to a couple of new authors that I now love — Naomi Novik in particular. There is a whole world of books entirely unknown to me just waiting out there! It’s a very exciting prospect, particularly when I can read samples before I buy. I also like the feature that allows you to cancel a purchase made by accident, although I have yet to need to take advantage of that. It shows a certain stand-up mentality on the part of the sellers.

I also love the “give the reader the first of a series free” mentality — trying out new series/authors without any stress is awesome, and the “maybe they’ll buy the rest of the series” part of it is totally working. Heh heh.

Specific things I’m not crazy about:

— The screen. Most of the reason I got the new Kindle was that my mother’s Wireless Kindle 1, which she had never used and I had been borrowing, fell about a foot onto carpeting and the screen cracked, rendering it useless three days after the warranty expired. We were very put out with the fragility of the screen, but in the couple of days that I had been borrowing it, I had fallen in love with the idea of it, so I put it on my birthday list. For the first couple of days with the new Wireless Kindle 2, I was so overprotective of the screen that I could barely stand to use the device.

I have deliberately been testing its limits — taking it on vacation, to work (where there is a very inquisitive one-year-old), carrying it in my backpack — to dull the edge of my panic. This has worked to some extent, but I am still at least twice as careful of it as I am of my laptop, which cost three times as much. Buying a stiff case (the black M-Edge) has also helped. It still makes me nervous, nervous, nervous.

I have also encountered the problem others have mentioned about the text fading badly in the sunlight; this bothers me less, since I’m less likely to read outdoors.

— The five-way clicker (or “nipple-mouse”.) It’s a little annoying to use and doesn’t always click when you tell it to. Also, I can’t stop referring to it as “the nipple-mouse”, which is possibly the stupidest name ever.

— The Whispernet library. It’s just too darn easy to order books! They tell you this device was supposed to pay for itself in a year, but at this rate I’ll have bought three times as many books as usual, which is conducive neither to saving money nor to maintaining a healthy social life. Beware!

Careful readers will note, however, that despite these drawbacks, I gave the device four stars. The one missing star is just for the screen fragility, which is a major problem but not an insurmountable one, I trust. That is the only thing I would change about the Wireless Kindle, and I have faith that the developers are — or will be — working on this. Well done so far, Amazon. Bring on the next generation!

Reading Kindle Review

By: Melinda J. Smith “Blue-haired gamer girl, cat…

Then I saw its face, now I’m a believer

Why I bought my Reading Kindle?

I love the portability (says the girl who once backpacked hardcover books into the back country of the Olympics) of my Reading Kindle and is indispensable when I travel or commute. I appreciate the Whispersync functionality that keeps my reading progress current across my PC/iphone/Kindle.

I was skeptical about a dedicated e-reader device. I already owned an iphone with multiple e-reading platforms and an Acer netbook that’s always in my purse. Once I started reading novels on my iphone, it wasn’t insurmountable for me to make the leap to the Kindle. A single battery charge of my Reading Kindle lasts almost two weeks compared to the 3-4 hours on my iphone or the 5-6 hours on my netbook. Have you actually tried reading a book on a netbook or laptop? It’s not that comfortable on an airplane, while standing in line, or on a bus.

My bookshelf space is already overflowing and I read through horror/sci-fi/fantasy/contemporary books very quickly (average 5-10 a month). I’m also uncomfortable trading/selling/throwing away finished books. Thus, I appreciate that I can have them all in one device rather than an entire bookcase in my apartment. There’s a lot of great works of fiction, non-fiction, comics, etc. that I will continue to have on my shelves, but for my “popcorn reading”? The Reading Kindle is the way to go. I’ve started reading a lot more non-fiction, business and technical manuals since I’ve bought my Reading Kindle. Want to feel like you’re still holding a book? Then grab one of the many book covers available.

I do think the e-ink/e-paper is a lot easier on my eyes for reading than the glossy or matte computer screens. The screen size is close enough to the size of a paperback book page that it hasn’t caused my eyes any problems. I also like that the amount of whitespace (kerning/tracking) as well as font size on-screen is configurable. The text-to-speech feature is novel, but if I’m feeling nostalgic for being read a bedtime story, then it’s useful.

I’ve made peace with the fact that I’m paying the early adopter $ which is a promise of a future superior generation of devices. I guess 9 for a device that I use for 1-2 years is actually a good bargain in my mind. I’ll likely get the next best thing and give my Reading Kindle v2 to my mom or someone who could care less about bleeding edge and happy to have a “cool gadget” to read with.

I didn’t even know that I’d make such use of the highlighting, annotating and dictionary features of the Reading Kindle. I love that I can virtually dog-ear my pages. There are relatively easy methods for getting non-Amazon purchased ebook and document content onto your computer, and I’ve made significant use of the drag-and-drop options via USB to my PC and Mac. There are a number of free software options to convert epub or other formats into a Kindle-friendly one.

Some things that frustrate me about the Reading Kindle and/or ebooks in general?

I agree that the current generation of readers aren’t designed to handle high-graphic content. I haven’t found the PDF versions of role playing game manuals to be that easy to read on my computer, nor are they very readable on the Reading Kindle.

The thumb stick navigation on the Reading Kindle takes some getting used to, especially those who use touch screens or mice everyday.

I want a better file storage or taxonomy system on my Reading Kindle. Perhaps a way to group by genre or subfolders? It’s a tad cumbersome when you have over 200 books and they’re all top-level viewing in the table of contents (aka home screen).

I’d love to see colored e-ink technology to be released and adopted in a way to make digital magazine reading a possibility on an e-reader device.

Many potential and current customers would love to see some kind of backlighting capability. I disagree because it’s what separated the e-ink reading experience from a computer or device screen. It truly is like reading a paper book. Anywhere I can read a book, I can read my Reading Kindle. For those rare occasions where I don’t have a good light source, I have a book light… same as I’ve always had. Besides, I don’t want to make the tradeoff of inferior battery life in order to power a device-native backlight.

I don’t expect ebook readers to completely take over the printed book, and I think there is a place in society for both.

Check For Best Price Now!..

Kindle Device User Reviews…

By: C. King “Newest Kindle Fan”

The Kindle Device 2 is a back saver!

I travel A LOT, and the Kindle has been the best addition to my travel bag in years! Not only do I get to carry an assortment of books to suit whatever mood I’m in on a plane/train ride, but all the manuals for the equipment my team uses are all loaded into one little Kindle Device.

In addition to electronic books, the Kindle Device 2 reads PDFs and (simple# Word documents. I simply send 100+ page manuals to my Kindle email address and voila! They are at my disposal on the road, without my having to lug around pounds of paper.

The business applications for anyone who has to read large documents are great. I’ve recommended the Kindle Device to the attorney’s on our staff. You can’t really ‘red line’ a doc on a Kindle Device, but you can certainly read through a contract on a plane/beach/etc, make notes, and then easily email those comments and notes to yourself #or someone who works for you# when you are near a wifi connection once again.

Plus the Kindle Device starts up in 2 seconds so documents can be retrieved quickly – and straight to the page upon which you left off – or quickly to any bookmarks or notes you’ve already made. It’s become much faster for me to get right to what I need on my Kindle Device, than a doc on any laptop or smart phone.

This is an incredibly handy device if you have a love for, or work extensively with, the written word.

Oh and one more thing – I’ve discovered that if you turn of “wifi” (easy navigation) until you know you need to send or retrieve something, the battery lasts for many many more hours.

Kindle Device 2

By: W. Waller

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this item and many of them cried about all the things it didn’t do.

The Kindle Device 2 is a portable library. It is light-weight and compact. The screen is supposed to be similar to looking at the paper pages in a book and therefore easier than staring at a backlit computer screen which I certainly do enough of each day. It is all of these things. And in all the complaints I read about the things it didn’t do.. well, those people just need a regular computer. That’s what they are looking for and there are plenty of tiny little computers out there. You want apps? Can’t live without twittering and updating facebook? Then get an I phone you can download books on that too.

I wanted something to carry with me where ever I went and not to have to choose which book to bring along. I needed to stop collecting shelves and shelves of books that are collecting dust and taking up space.

The Kindle Device 2 is everything I thought it would be and then some.

Won me Over

O.K. I just got this today as a present for fathers day. At first I was unsure about it. I have always loved to read a good book curled on the couch , glass of wine etc. I am looking at this device like what is this? I have already purchased 7 books and have been reading two of them all day. This is truly an amazing piece of technology.

Very easy to use, beautiful screen, light weight but not flimsy. I took it outside in the bright sun and it was just as easy to read as indoors-great for the beach. I am not one to write reviews but the Kindle Device 2 is so remarkable I just had to write about it. The cost of books is very reasonable, some are free, and what do you do with that book when your done? Saves trees, and room in your house.

All the menus are easy to follow, the instructions which are downloaded to your Kindle Device are for anyone to understand, not tech at all. The dictionary feature is great, just put the cursor next to the word and the meaning shows at the bottom of the screen. I could go on but got to get back to my Kindle Device 2.

Kindle Device 2

By: Mou “It ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive!”

When the Kindle Device was released in 2007, I was intrigued–partly because I’m a gadget junkie and partly because I’m a book junkie. I found myself going to the Kindle Device page on Amazon quite a lot and wondering if it was something I’d really use. It looked cool, and I liked the idea of carrying several books in one small package. (You ever been on vacation and come to the realization that the book you brought with you just isn’t the book you want to read at that time? I hate it when that happens.)

Time passed, and I didn’t order a Kindle Device. Still, a teaching colleague talked about the device from time to time. She was very much like me: she thought she wanted one, but was a bit daunted by the price and the question of how much she would actually use it.

Then, along came Oprah, and my colleague was sure she wanted one. I was still skeptical. Finally, she got one for Christmas from her parents and showed it to me in January. I liked it a lot, but I’d started hearing rumblings about a Kindle Device 2 and thought it best to wait.

Soon, another colleague told me she’d ordered a Kindle Device, but was on a waiting list. Then, Kindle Device 2 was announced, and this colleague told me she’d received an email saying she’d be upgraded to the Kindle Device 2 automatically. After it arrived, she brought it to school, singing its praises, and I was hooked. It’s easy on the eyes (both in terms of its sleek appearance and the electronic paper’s readability) and easy to hold. I wasn’t sure I was ready to give up an actual book in hand, but it turns out, I’m fine with it.

Now, I’m one of those folks who lives in a place not covered by Whispernet, but downloading a Kindle Device book to my computer and moving it to my Kindle Device 2 is not a hardship. It’s done in a flash. Sure, sure, Whispernet’s more convenient (I’ve used it when I’ve been out of town.), but you know, it’s not like I sit around moaning about the lack of Whispernet. Heck, I’ve got too much reading to do to worry about that.

So, in short, I love my Kindle Device 2. It does pretty much what I need it to do. (Incidentally, I don’t need to read to me, so I’m not so worried about the text-to-speech thing.)

Amazon kindle User Review…

By: Laura Lockhart “Travelbug”

Heaven

My husband and I have had our Amazon kindles for over 6 mos. now. Neither of us owned the Amazon Kindle 1, though we’ve seen it in action. Though we tend to use our Kindles differently, we both LOVE them. The text is unbelievably easy to read — I am reading at night or in bed again. The dimmer light was more difficult for me with traditional books. Now I just change the font to a comfortable level. The books download easily and quickly and you’re ready to go in a minute or two. Since we travel frequently, slipping the Amazon kindle in the overnight bag is SO much better than trying to choose which book(s) to take. My husband is an avid reader of the New York Times. He now has a subscription on the Amazon kindle.

No more piles of newspapers, no more searching all over our travel destination for a very early and/or very expensive copy at a newstore. Reading on an airplane is so easy — I can hold it in one hand and change my position without struggling with a book. My husband has the “official” cover that carries more like a book. I like the feel of the Amazon kindle alone, so I use the Belkin carrying case and take the Amazon Kindle out when I want to read. Both are excellent and meet our individual needs. The buttons are easy to use, page turning is seamless, the dictionary function priceless.

Neither of us use the text to voice feature since we don’t care to be “read to”, so I can’t really review that part. I understand some books do not have the feature enabled. It has revolutionized the way both of us read and we are in heaven! Battery life is awesome so we bring only one charger for both Amazon kindles when we travel. We are both reading more than ever. The only (and very minor) “glitch” I have noticed is that some books will sometimes have strange word separations — like “rico cheted” or “bat tlement”. I assume this has to do with the electronic transfer and depends a little on the font used. It is infrequent and not enough to be annoying.

Our “wish list” would be a bigger library but I know they’re working furiously on that. Bottom line — if you love to read and love to read ANYWHERE, get the Amazon kindle! Belkin Neoprene Sleeve Case for 2nd Generation Kindle Amazon kindle Leather Cover (fits 2nd Generation Amazon kindle)

Wireless Kindle 2 User Review…

Wireless Kindle 2 : First Impressions from a Kindle 1 owner

On the one hand I love my Wireless Kindle 1… I use it everyday, I subscribe to my favorite newspaper, I mark up my books with annotations, highlights and bookmarks.

On the other hand my Wireless Kindle 1 annoys me… unintended page changes, the awkward way I sometimes have to hold it to keep from hitting buttons, the sometimes slow page refresh, and the screen freezes that now has me traveling with a paper clip lest I need to do a reset while commuting on the train.

I’ve had the Wireless Kindle 2 in my hands for almost a day and have carried it on one commute. What follows is my “first impressions” review of the Wireless Kindle 2 from the perspective of an owner of the original K1. What’s different, what’s better and what’s worse?

5 big things I immediately noticed as different:

First, when taking the K2 out of the box I immediately noted that the back cover is not easily removable (if at all) and won’t slip off in my hands – as was frequent with the K1. The keyboard is also much much smaller and less obtrusive.

The second thing I noticed is power management. No longer do I have to press and hold two buttons to put the device to sleep. The switches for On/Off and Wireless On/Off are gone. There’s a single small switch at the top of the K2 that handles Sleep.

The third thing I noticed – where’s the silver strip? In fact, the entire navigation structure has been completely revised – I’m still getting used to it but it’s a huge step forward. The silver strip has been replaced by a 4-way rocker that can also be pressed for “OK” commands, creating bookmarks, and doing highlighting.

The fourth thing I noticed – while page changing doesn’t seem to me to be particularly faster – almost every other interaction on the screen is vastly accelerated… scrolling the cursor, looking up words, highlighting text, and typing text.

The fifth thing I noticed – a new power cable. This unit uses USB cables that are not compatible with K1. It’s a bit of a bummer since I was hoping my wife and I could share power cables (she’s taking over my K1).

What’s better:

Navigation is a huge improvement. Moving the cursor to a word and having the definition of the word immediately pop up on the bottom of the screen is terrific. Using the rocker to move between articles in a newspaper makes scanning the paper much faster and enjoyable. Calling up the Menu strip is much faster and interactive. Clearly, Amazon was hard at work to make navigation quicker and easier. The hard work is apparent.

Buttons: The K1 was a constant struggle with inadvertent page changes. The design was flawed from the beginning. The single best improvement in the K2 took a few minutes of concentrated reading to realize… the button hinges are on the outside – at the edge – of the K2. You need to press on the interior of the button to get it to click. This change alone has saved me from several inadvertent page changes. Combine that with the smaller button sizes and one major source of frustration has been instantly eliminated!

Size: The K2 is thinner than the iPhone. It feels denser and maybe a tad heavier – although I did buy the premium cover which snaps into the K2 and adds to the weight (btw, I love the premium cover and think it’s worth the investment).

Network Speed: The K2 can use G3 cellphone connections and when it’s activated it makes a considerable difference in interactivity to the Wireless Kindle Store and when downloading Archived content.

Power Management: The little power button at the top of the Wireless Kindle is really a power slide. That is, slide it to toggle Sleep mode on and off. Slide and hold to do a full power down. And the K1′s wireless on-off switch has been replaced by a menu choice in software. Works for me. Also, compared to the K1 waking from sleep is super-fast.

What’s worse…

There isn’t much I liked better in the K1 than the K2. One thing: calling up clippings and notes. In the K2 these items only list the first sentence or two of my highlights. In the K1 it displays the entire highlight – which makes reading through them much easier and more like reading Cliff Notes. The new interface in K2 is annoying and makes the feature much less useful. I’ll be writing to Amazon to see if we can get that changed.

Closing thoughts…

The K2 is a big refinement over the K1. It feels as easy to read as the K1 but doesn’t seem any crisper to my eyes (I usually read at point sizes 3 & 4). In this regard, as a book, the K1 and K2 are comparable. I wouldn’t run up my credit card to buy the K2 from a belief that it’s fundamentally easier to read. However, in my short time with the K2 it’s a more enjoyable device to use. The change in the hinging and size of the buttons is major plus and would make it hard to go back to the K1. Amazon broke a few paradigms that K1 users are accustomed to and I found myself going to the K2 User Guide to figure out some content management issues that have been changed in this release.

Why 4 stars and not 5? The Wireless Kindle will never get 5 stars from me until Amazon implements the notion of a lending library where I can lend another Wireless Kindle user a book; which would have the book would disappear from my Wireless Kindle and appear on theirs. After x number of days the book would automatically be returned to me and taken off the other person’s Wireless Kindle. Amazon says they want the device to disappear and content to stand out. I say: Until I can lend a friend a book the Wireless Kindle will never quite live up to that standard and will be, in my book, stuck at 4 stars.

Wireless Kindle Customer Review…

By: C. White

Everything Amazon says it is and more!

A great product. The second generation Wireless Kindle has a sleek design and is easy to use. Reading on the Wireless Kindle is like buying a new album for the one song you like; after about a week, it is one of your favorite CD’s. The Wireless Kindle is more than just an eReader. You can download lots of books for cheaper than the paper versions without connecting to a computer.

There are also many books available for free via Amazon or other websites. What is more, the free access to the Internet is a major plus for checking websites on the go. This is why I bought the Wireless Kindle over other similar products. There are a few bugs that can be worked out and it can always be improved on, but this is the best one out there.

Very Pleased compared to the Sony Reader 700

By: Jessica S. Johnson “JSJ”

I wanted to choose between the sony reader 700 and the Wireless Kindle 2. So I purchased both.

The sony reader arrived first. I have read so many praises about the sony reader compared to the Wireless Kindle 2. Whereas my experience with the sony reader, I kept for only 1 day, was the glare was horrendous. The backlight is not a backlight. The lights are casted from the side of the reader fusing towards the center, which caused me to experience severe eye-strain. Even without the back light, within fifteen minutes of reading on the sony reader due to the glare, my eyes were hurting. I repackaged the sony reader and sent it back immediately.

My Wireless Kindle 2 arrived two days later. Although I have read some ill reviews about the kindle 2, my personal take on the Wireless Kindle 2 is …. “I HAVE YET TO PUT IT DOWN.” I have not experienced eye-strain. The words are crystal clear. Although it does not have a back light, I purchased a clip on light. The illuminence of the light is equally distributed onto the screen which causes “no” eye strain.

I do hope in the future that Wireless Kindle incorporates a touch screen, which would enhance its performance. I ALSO wish kindle installs, (which the sony reader does have) “password” protect. On all of my electronic devices, they are all password protected.

But, as far as my reading experience with the Wireless Kindle 2, I have downloaded so many books and all at a fraction of the original price. I have also found books that are free or next to nothing in expense. I enjoy my Wireless Kindle 2 so much that my sister is buying one too.

With some of the other reviews which were quite helpful, I am going to back up my purcahsed books onto my computer.

As far as I’m concerned, the Wireless Kindle 2 is my choice of electronic reader.

Wireless Kindle User Review…

By: Jessica White “happyjessica”

Keeping it brief–The New Wireless Kindle 2 is a Big Improvement!

I just ripped through the pretty packaging and I love my new Wireless Kindle 2! (I’m a late 30′s book lover. I read lots of fiction and non-fiction, and type in notes for my book club.)

It’s much thinner (and evenly flat as opposed to wedge shaped like the Kindle 1).

The cover (sold separately) is a vastly better design with clips that hold the Wireless Kindle firmly with no straps or elastic. Real leather.

The font size options include a slightly smaller font that before–looks great.

The screen has a higher degree of clarity than the Wireless Kindle 1.

Navigation is much easier with the 5-way button.

The only negative: I miss having a dedicated button to deactivate the wireess, but the overall device has improved so much that I will get over the loss quickly.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE!!!

I dropped it, they replaced it FREE!

By: K. Lambert

I have had my Wireless Kindle 2 since May of 2009, it’s now Dec. so a little over 6 months, I have always been a voracious reader & was skeptical about using a reading device, I knew how much I hated trying to read large documents on a computer! I was completely blown away. After the first few days of adjusting, now any time I switch back to a real book, I miss my Wireless Kindle!!

The text is clear & easy to read, it really does look just like a real book, the pages turn quickly (maybe not quite as quick as turning a page, but close), the battery holds a good long charge, books are quick & easy to purchase right from the device-no computer required & no internet connection (if your cell phone works, odds are your Wireless Kindle will too), & my husband loves the fact he’s no longer lugging my bag of books through the airport But the best part is the customer service: I recently dropped my Wireless Kindle 2 & called Customer Service just out of curiosity to see if there was anything they could do, I was unbelievably surprised to learn that THEY COVER FALLS & DROPS!! For one year Amazon will replace your Wireless Kindle ABSOLUTELY FREE if you drop it!

An amazing device just got even better!! They will ship the new device overnight & send a box to return it, all FREE! The new one is even supposed to be registered to me, I just have to use the archives to retrieve my books. I just can’t say enough good things about this company & this Wireless Kindle!! Don’t think about it anymore, get it, you won’t regret it!! But be sure to invest in a padded case, I like the vertically opening leather ones, you can find them on this site too

Kindle Wireless Device Review…

By: Bruce S. Woodcock “SirBruce”

The best consumer ereader on the market today

I won’t extoll the many virtues of Kindle Wireless Device 2; you can read about those in other reviews. Suffice it to say I’m 100% pleased with my Kindle Wireless Device 2 and love reading books on it. That said, there are a *few* drawbacks that some purchasers might want to be aware of:

1. The screen could be bigger. Mind you, it’s the same size as the Kindle Wireless Device 1, and that of most book pages, but I for one dream of something larger without a larger price tag.

2. The volume doesn’t quite go up high enough. On its max setting, it can be hard to hear the book over the din of background noise like nearby traffic, a treadmill, or even the inside of a noisy vehicle. The speakers are on the back, so flipping it over helps, but the bottom line is earphones are almost essential, and yet they are not included in your purchase.

3. The text-to-speech isn’t all that great. Windows 7 has a better text-to-speech voice. Also, text-to-speech does not work inside the dictionary, so you can’t hear how to pronounce words. Hopefully this feature can be improved for free in the future via software upgrades.

4. It’s a little slow, especially when searching lots of books, or when accessing the Internet. The five-way controller is great, but don’t expect the cursor to respond “instantly” to your input; it lags noticeably. You’ll get used to it, but don’t expect the responsiveness of your home computer.

5. There can be occassional minor “ghosting” problems where the screen does not completely update on a page turn or when navigating. Usually refreshing the screen clears it right up. This is NOT a major problem unless you’re an obsessive-compulsive who will be unable to read a book if there’s anything but a uniform grey background.

6. The lack of folders or tagging capability makes it problematic to maintain a collection of hundreds of books. It’s great if you’re only reading a few books of a time, but trying to find a particular book in your library can be tedious either searching or page turning through your list of titles.

7. The lack of native support for formats like PDF, DOC, and LIT make the device less convenient than it could be. I think it’s understandable that the conversion of such documents may not be “perfect”, but I would still much rather that the Kindle Wireless Device did it invisibly on the fly, rather than requiring a manual conversion step on the part of the user. Amazon’s email conversion is a half-measure at best, and not all that great. I recommend getting a third-party program for your computer like Calibre or Mobipocket Creator, and using it to convert any such files into MOBI format and then transferring them to your Kindle Wireless Device via the USB cable.

Check For Best Price Now!..

www.czarspace.com Kindle 2: Introducing Kindle™ Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, reading Kindles screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time. We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, youll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read. With Whispernet, you can be almost anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Havent read the book for tomorrow nights book club? Get it in a minute …
